BetRivers Adds Sports Betting Markets in West Virginia
Rush Street Interactive has announced it’s adding a sportsbook to the already live West Virginia BetRivers Casino. The West Virginia casino has been open since April 2021, and the addition of sports betting vertical expands the brand’s presence in the state by offering its players more ways to bet.
theScore to Exit US
Canada-based betting brand theScore will exit US markets on July 1st to focus on Canada, leaving Penn National Gaming (which acquired theScore last year) to focus on the Barstool brand in US markets. theScore is based in Canada and was one of the first licensed operators to go live. The move allows both brands to continue in the market they are strongest in and maximize the brand value.
MGM Sells Gold Strike Operating Rights for $450m
MGM announced this week that it is selling the operating rights to Gold Strike Hotel & Casino in Tunica to the Cherokee Nation Entertainment Gaming Holdings for $450m in cash. MGM has said that the future looks bright for Gold Strike, leaving the brand to concentrate on a single Mississippi resort, Beau Rivage. Gold Strike has been operating since 1994 and was acquired by MGM in 2005.
Spin City Sentences Handed Out
Three people have been sentenced for their role in an illegal Michigan gambling operation Spin City. The sentences come after a Michigan Gaming Control Board investigation following reports of an illegal gambling operation in Flint Township. All three persons pled guilty to the charges.
Henry Williams, MCGB executive director, has issued the following statement: “The Michigan Gaming Control Board appreciates the support from the Attorney General’s office and police agencies across Michigan in helping to eliminate illegal gambling locations, which target low-income neighborhoods, lack player protections, and can lead to other more serious crimes.”
