There are no online casinos in Louisiana at this time, but gambling regulations are evolving, and at the start of 2022, legal online sports betting went live. There are already seven sportsbooks operating, including BetMGM, Caesars, and DraftKings.

HB 697 proposed the tax rates for commercial and online operators, and SB 247 detailed the licensing conditions and made way for up to 20 gambling licenses (one each for the 15 riverboat casinos, four racetracks, and one land-based casino in LA) with two skins per license, meaning there could be up to 40 sports betting platforms in the Bayou State in total.
The bills work in harmony, legalizing and implementing sports betting in the parishes that approved regulation. There is a 10% tax rate for retail sports betting and 15% for online operators, and licenses cost $250,000 per application, each permit lasting five years.
Additionally, daily fantasy sports were legalized in 2018, but it took two years for the LA Gaming Control Board to accept applications.
For players, taxes are charged at the federal rate, which means that you must declare them as net winnings on your yearly return.
